10 Things To Do During Lockdown

It’s tough times for those in Sydney and surrounding suburbs, the State Government lockdown has restricted some of our normalities in life and some of you may be spending a lot more time at home than ever before. The best thing we can do is stay positive and try to make the best of a bad situation! That’s why we have 10 ideas for activities you can do to keep yourself occupied, entertained and help your mood during this pandemic.
  1. Discover your suburb You’re still permitted to exercise outdoor 10km within your home. If you’re unaware of what is considered in your 10km radius, use this handy tool on the Government’s website here. Grab your headphones and walk around your suburb or organise the family to bike ride together. You never know, you might find your new favourite cafe or park to visit.
  2. Spring cleaning Spring is right around the corner, if you’re spending more time at a home, it’s time dig in those crowded cupboards and closets and see what fits and what items you may not use anymore. You could sell these items online to make a few extra bucks or donate them!
  3. Get creative Spotlight has these fantastic paint by numbers set for kids and adults, and Kmart has few options of colouring-in activity books too. This will keep you or your family entertained for a good couple of hours and it’s even more fun sharing your artwork at the end.
  4. Start a new TV Show We are lucky we live in a world that has so many online streaming services for movies and TV Shows, from Netflix to Amazon Prime, to Disney Plus and Stan, you have the theatre at your fingertips.
  5. Create a walking/running challenge The Nike Run Club app has a custom challenge tool and is free to use! You choose the distance to reach, how long the challenge will and invite your friends to join in. You can choose to walk or run or both in this challenge. It’s a fantastic way to keep connected with friends and family and motivate yourself to keep moving.
  6. Learn a new dish The beauty of having the internet is having a million recipes for every occasion. The BFit @ Home has an entire section dedicated to cooking and you can try some of their delicious recipes for free here.
  7. Read We live in a world where we are so fortunate to be able to enjoy books in many ways from audiobooks to reading from a tablet to having a paperback book delivered to your doorstep. There is also a book out there for everyone from educational topics to fictional stories to autobiographies. Check out Dymocks best seller section here.
  8. Meditate Mindfulness can be practised anywhere, anytime at any place. Take 10 minutes to practice calm. What may help are a series of apps if you need a trigger to help reach a level of zen. ‘Insight Timer’ – has over 25,000 free guided meditations. ‘Smiling Mind’ might be a good option if you don’t want to be overwhelmed by choice. Put aside distractions and focus fully on one small task. For example, while you’re having a cup of tea, pay attention to your senses (the smell of the tea, the warmth of the cup in your hand, the taste…).
  9. Stay Active We too would love to be at one of our health clubs sweating it out to our favourite weights routine. But, as that’s not a current possibility, we must still maintain a level of physical activity to fuel both our physical and mental health. There are heaps of different types of exercises you can do from home including our BlueFit workouts on the app or BFit @ Home workouts here, to help push you that bit further. You could also add a brisk walk with the family to help bring a change in scenery.
  10. Phone a friend Despite not being about to meet up in person there are many ways to stay in touch with your friends and family. Options include; via text, Messenger, WhatsApp, FaceTime, or a good old fashioned phone call. Ask them how they’re feeling and share your own experiences if you feel comfortable to do so. This will help you feel as if you’re not alone and that others may be experiencing the same feelings as you.
